What’s 3D printing? 3D printing is an additive manufacturing process that was developed in the 1980’s.  The 3D printers we use take a 3D model and prints it out layer by layer. Spools of PLA (a hard-plastic) are heated up and extruded, kind of like a hot glue gun. There are many different types of 3D printers that can 3D print in a wide variety of materials such as metals, porcelain, chocolate, and even skin. Check out this video about 3D printing to learn more.

How is Winter Hill Jewelry eco-friendly? Winter Hill Jewelry is passionate about having a minimal environmental footprint to protect the planet. Instead of relying on mined materials or traditional plastic that is made from climate-harming fossil fuels, we use PLA, a plant-based plastic that is compostable. All scrap plastic left over from the production process is recycled. Our card stock is recyclable, shipping boxes are made of cardboard and paper (no plastic), and all our work is designed and made in the United States of America.

What material are they? Plant-based plastic which is a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics. Traditional plastics are made from fossil fuels and are a contributor to climate change. We use Polylactic Acid, or PLA, plastic to make our designs. PLA is made from renewable resources, such as sugar cane or cornstarch, and in the right conditions, it biodegrades.

Are they fragile? No, they are quite durable. If you accidentally break one just let us know and we will replace it for free, you just pay shipping.

Will my jewelry biodegrade? Not if you don’t want it to! With normal usage and storage your jewelry is long-lasting. It only biodegrades when given the right conditions (heat, moisture, and microorganisms) that can be found in an industrial composting facility.

What are the findings? All earrings come with hypoallergenic stainless steel findings. They will not rust or tarnish and are great for people with sensitive ears.

What is your return policy? You can return or exchange your earrings for 30 days after you receive them for a full refund minus the cost of shipping.

Why is this less expensive than other 3D printed jewelry? Most other jewelers who sell 3D-printed jewelry outsource the actual printing to large 3D printing service companies (like copy shops for 3D printers).  This is because it takes a lot of skill and effort to maintain 3D printers but we think it's worth it for the cost savings, which we are happy to pass along to my customers.

What type of 3D printer do you use? We use Flash Forge Creator Pro printers.

Where do you make the earrings? Everything is designed, 3D printed and assembled in Somerville, MA which is just outside of Boston.

Can I get a custom design? Yes - if you’re interested in a custom design, please reach out!

I absolutely LOVE these earrings. The other reviews said they are light but I was still surprised by how truly light and comfortable they are. I get compliments when I wear them and I love that they work with both casual and nice outfits.
